When should I buy a different length blade over an Attachment Comb set?

When comparing detachable blades and attachment combs you can notice there are a lot more teeth on blades than combs.

This means on blades there are more cutting wedges available for the hair to evenly feed through and be cut. Now imagine

when you put an attachment comb onto a blade it covers up some of those cutting wedges of the blade (see images below).

Meaning you have less wedges exposed to cut hair. To add to this, attachment comb teeth are further spaced apart than

normal blade teeth which mean you have larger volumes of hair feeding in to fewer cutting wedges. This makes the hair feeding

through bunch together and form into a teepee or triangle structure causing the hair to be cut unevenly.

What does this mean?

When clipping with attachment combs the cuts you do will be more uneven which requires you to have to go back over the

Same spot multiple times until you have evened out all the hair lengths. A normal detachable blade is designed in a way that

evenly cuts the hair, dramatically reducing grooming time as well as producing more accurate cuts.

When to suggest Attachment Combs and when to suggest Detachable Blades?

Attachment combs are best recommended for those first starting out at grooming. It means grooming will take longer for them due

to the inefficiency of the attachment comb teeth compared to the detachable blade teeth but it is a smaller investment for them

to test the waters of at-home grooming.

Once they have been grooming for some time and want to improve their grooming experience you could suggest for them to have

a look at purchasing different blade lengths.
